About me
Tony Agnello was born in Brooklyn, graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1966, received the BSEE from City College of NY in 1971, the MSEE from the City University of NY in 1974 followed by post graduate studies in Digital Signal Processing at Brooklyn’s Polytechnical Institute (now part of NYU). Mr. Agnello joined Eventide in 1973 and, in 1975, designed the first pro-audio digital effects device, the H910 Harmonizer. In 1979, Mr. Agnello led the development of the industry’s first general purpose digital signal processor, the SP2016, introducing the concept of ‘plug-in’ effects. Mr. Agnello developed algorithms that realistically simulated natural reverberation as well several innovative effects. In 1983, Mr. Agnello co-founded Ariel Corp with the mission of helping engineers and computer scientists develop techniques to exploit the emerging technology of DSP. Ariel’s products were used to develop techniques used in medicine, physics, chemistry, telecommunications in addition to audio processing. In 2002, he returned to Eventide where he continues to push the boundaries of audio processing. Mr. Agnello serves as Managing Director of Eventide, Inc, records with the Silver Merkins band and produces the Gear Club podcast.Mr. Agnello is a member of the IEEE and an AES Fellow. He is a recipient of the Jay Kappraff Award for Excellence in Science and Arts, AES Gold Medal and the Grammy Technical Award. He holds several patents in the field of audio processing and telecommunications.
